Im Anfang war die Woort

Field names such as Woort, Esch, Geist, Kamp, Brink, Waldemei or Kopp have mostly been passed down orally through the centuries and today often pose riddles. They reflect past linguistic and everyday worlds. They also indirectly point to the changes in nature and landscape. The field names show how the people of rural society perceived their environment and oriented themselves in it - and also how they changed the landscape through settlement, agriculture, crafts, trade and traffic. Photos and maps invite the reader to browse and discover. In text and images, the book offers an unusual view of the history of the landscape and the people of Westphalia and north-west Germany.
