The lead role is played by Devid Striesow, known for his role as a detective in "Tatort." The high-profile cast of the film adaptation also includes Martina Gedeck (as pilgrim Stella), Karoline Schuch (as pilgrim Lena), Katharina Thalbach (as Kerkeling's grandmother), and Annette Frier (as Kerkeling's manager).
