In recent years, the Siebengebirge has made a name for itself as a hiking region, not only because of the premium hiking trail Rheinsteig or the new Bergischer Weg from Drachenfels to Essen. In addition to long-distance hiking trails like the Kölner Weg or the Hiking Trail of German Unity, the Siebengebirge offers a landscape of European significance right at the gates of the cities of Cologne and Bonn, a tradition that has been in place since the 19th century. Along the Rhine, vineyards and dry slopes provide views that extend deep into the river valley, while beech forests shape the paths in the nature reserve from Ennert in the north to the state border of Rhineland-Palatinate in the south. Those who continue towards the Pleiser Hügelland will discover an open landscape of meadows and streams, featuring nurseries and orchards that exude their own unique charm. With the recommended circular hiking trails, we have aimed to do justice to all elements of the landscape.
