As a hiking region, the Siebengebirge has made a name for itself in recent years, and not only because of the premium hiking trail Rheinsteig or the new Bergisch Trail from Drachenfels to Essen. In addition to the long-distance hiking trails, such as the Cologne Trail or the Hiking Trail of German Unity, the Siebengebirge, just outside the cities of Cologne and Bonn, offers an adventure landscape of European significance, and has done so since the 19th century. While the vineyards and dry slopes along the Rhine offer views far into the Strom Valley, beech forests characterize the trails in the nature reserve from the Ennert in the north to the state border of Rhineland-Palatinate in the south. If you then hike further in the direction of the Pleiser Hügelland, you will discover an open meadow and stream landscape with tree nurseries and orchards that exudes its special charm.
