As a successful collaborative product, this unique map has been created. All the content from the previous hiking tour map "The Alpine Crossing" (detailed maps, comprehensive route descriptions, additional information, and images) is now combined in the proven hiking map format. Keep track of your hike from Tegernsee over Achensee and Zillertal to Sterzing.
About the tour:
- From Tegernsee over Achensee and Zillertal to Sterzing – this route leads over the main Alpine ridge to Italy on easy to moderately difficult paths.
- The seven stages, each 11 to 22 km long, provide insights not only into diverse mountain landscapes but also into the variety of alpine cultural landscapes in Upper Bavaria, Tyrol, and South Tyrol.
- A highlight is the third stage along the western shore of Achensee, offering magnificent views of the Rofan mountains and many opportunities for a dip in the lake.
- The Zillertal, a side valley of the Inn Valley, can be reached by steam cogwheel train and Zillertalbahn. From Fügen, you ascend to Spieljoch and follow a beautiful high trail over Hochfügen to Melchboden and Mayrhofen.
- The highlight of the hike is crossing the main Alpine ridge: from Schlegeis reservoir, you hike over the Pfitzscher Joch (2248 m) into the Pfitschtal valley.
- Rustic farmhouses and the typical South Tyrolean stone churches characterize the South Tyrolean valley leading down to Sterzing. There, the Gothic town center impresses with many brightly painted burgher houses.
