Product details
From the perspective of the history of philosophy, the 12th century is marked by profound changes, innovations, and developments that will in some respects fundamentally determine the future intellectual life of Europe. On the one hand, urban schools flourish, in which the ancient heritage is absorbed and integrated into medieval thought and in which, at the same time, the largely humanistic thought of the time is revived and continued. On the other hand, intellectual centers were formed where an abundance of texts were translated from Greek, especially from Arabic, and also from Hebrew, which fertilized philosophical reflection and textual production in a unique way. This volume presents 12th-century philosophy in the Latin West in all its doctrinal, institutional, and geographical diversity.
