This third guide to the trilogy on fundamental and human rights addresses child and adult protection law. Social workers, as members of an authority that issues measures or as those responsible for their implementation, are responsible for ensuring that the fundamental and human rights of those affected are upheld.

Child and adult protection law operates at the intersection of public and private law. It is regulated in the Civil Code but contains a multitude of norms of a public law nature that allow or require restrictions on the rights of vulnerable individuals. The state has the duty to ensure the protection of children or adults who are unable to exercise their rights themselves. At the same time, it is tasked with granting them the greatest possible autonomy.

Through concrete case examples and areas of tension, solutions that comply with fundamental rights are presented, thereby bridging the gap to practice. This aims to support professionals and authorities in acting in accordance with fundamental rights in difficult decision-making situations.
