Product details

Carson McCullers, born in Columbus (Georgia) in 1917, actually wanted to be a pianist. With 500 dollars, she travelled alone to New York at eighteen to study at the renowned Juilliard School of Music. The money mysteriously disappeared, but she stayed in New York, worked as a secretary, waitress, bar pianist and decided to become a writer. At 23, she suffered the first of three strokes, her life was defined by the illness from which she wrested her work, and by loneliness, especially after her husband's suicide in 1953. Carson McCullers died in Nyack (New York) in 1967.
