Frank Schulz-Nieswandt

In 2019, Prof. Dr. Siegfried Katterle passed away at the age of 85. He was part of the Cologne Gerhard-Weisser-School for Social Policy and Cooperative Economics, including the cooperative movement. He taught and researched macroeconomics and economic policy at the University of Bielefeld. As an institutionalist, he criticized methodological individualism and normative market liberalism, embedding this research and teaching within the ethical tradition of the libertarian socialism of the criticism of the Weisser School. In the context of his religious socialization in the Protestant Church, he represented the variant of religious socialism as developed in the Paul Tillich Circle. This work commemorates Siegfried Katterle as a human personality, particularly highlighting his roots in the political theology of Paul Tillich. A connecting link was the social economy of Eduard Heimann, who was also a member of the Tillich Circle.
