Dignity

We all want to die with dignity, but shouldn't we first live with dignity? Dignity is a significant concept. Right in Article 1 of the Basic Law, it states: "The dignity of man is inviolable." But what exactly is dignity? What does it mean when our dignity is taken away, for example, when we are reduced to mere data in the digital world or slandered online? What happens when we behave undignified ourselves or demean others? Neuroscientist Gerald Hüther demonstrates in his new book that dignity is not only an ethically and philosophically grounded human right but also a neurobiologically based inner compass that enables us to navigate the diversity of external demands and pressures in a highly complex world without losing ourselves. Therefore, it is all the more important that we learn to strengthen our perception of our own dignity. Because: Those who are aware of their dignity.
