Product details
Knowledge is not only a product of representation and symbolization but also of narrative forms. This is particularly true in the cultural and social sciences, given the almost ubiquitous discourse on 'narratives' as a matter of course, which, however, has hardly led to illuminating the specific epistemological functions of storytelling for knowledge. The volume discusses the significance of storytelling for the constitution and circulation of knowledge, connecting to the discovery of the importance of storytelling in individual sciences, as well as to a general theory of storytelling that goes beyond a narrower literary-functional definition. Storytelling is understood as a far-reaching function of knowledge formation and dissemination. Complementarily, literary storytelling itself is also examined for its epistemological functions.
