At approx. 6000 km², the Usedom, Szczecin Lagoon cycle map covers a particularly large area, most of which belongs to the district of Vorpommern-Greifswald.
The holiday paradise of Usedom, the so-called "bathtub of Berlin", not only has sophisticated, nostalgic seaside resorts with more than 40 kilometres of beautiful sandy beaches and a wide range of cultural activities, but also a variety of natural and landscape forms in the Achterland. The landscape along the Strelasund and Greifswalder Bodden is tranquil, characterised by scattered forests and vast meadows and farmland.
The almost 54,000-hectare Szczecin Lagoon Nature Park is located south of the lagoon on the border with Poland. The landscape is characterised by the unspoilt lagoon coast with the lagoon meadows, a slightly hilly terminal moraine landscape, low moorland areas and small rivers such as the Uecker and Randow, as well as extensive beech and mixed forests. The Ueckermünde Heath bordering the Szczecin Lagoon is part of the nature park and has poor sandy soils. There are inland dunes and heathland, as well as numerous moors and swamps. The very varied landscape is home to a diverse flora and fauna. The nature park is an important resting area for migratory birds: thousands of geese and cranes can be observed in spring and autumn. There are also black storks and white-tailed eagles.
In addition to the Uecker and Randow rivers, the near-natural valleys of the Peene, Tollense and Trebel rivers, which characterise the landscape inland, should also be mentioned. The Peene Valley is one of the last unspoilt primeval valleys in Central Europe. It is a magnet and habitat for eagles, red deer, otters, beavers and plants and enjoys special protection through the Peene Valley River Landscape Nature Park.
One of the cultural highlights is the old Hanseatic town of Greifswald, which has been included on the cycle map. Back to the time of the.
