Product details
Dresden, the capital of the Free State of Saxony, is located in a hilly region in the midst of the Elbe valley expansion at the edge of the Lusatian Granite Plateau and boasts an 800-year history. The reunification in 1989/90 restored Saxony as a Free State and Dresden as its capital. Since then, the city has undergone extensive construction activities, transforming it day by day, and it is now considered one of the most beautiful large cities in Germany.
Dresden is also situated along the Saxon Wine Route, which follows the course of the Elbe for about 60 kilometers between Pirna, south of Dresden, and Diesbar-Seusslitz, north of Meissen. Favorably located by nature, wine has been cultivated in the Elbe valley since the Middle Ages. Today, approximately 447 hectares are dedicated to viticulture, making the Saxon wine region the second smallest in Germany and one of the northeasternmost in Europe. In the wine taverns and restaurants along the sun-kissed Elbe valley, Saxon wine can be tasted everywhere, accompanied by a Mediterranean lifestyle.
In addition to wine culture and scenic diversity, the Elbe Cycle Path offers numerous cultural highlights: Karl May fans will find joy in Radebeul, porcelain lovers can carefully fill their bags at the world-renowned porcelain factory in Meissen, and enthusiastic castle visitors should definitely take a trip to Moritzburg. Upstream, an impressive landscape awaits, culminating in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains near Bad Schandau and Königstein.
