Exam paper from the year 2007 in the subject area Didactics - General Didactics, Educational Objectives, Methods, grade: 1.0, Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, language: German, abstract: Appearance, clothing, body language, appearance and style of speech are obvious criteria on the basis of which we classify people we encounter as male or female. The existence of two different genders is not only easy to spot, society has long since adapted to it as a matter of course in order to meet different needs of men and women. The first question after birth or often already during pregnancy is the gender of the newborn. Parental decisions also depend on this: the name, the furnishing of the nursery, the clothes as well as the toys. Girls are associated with pretty looks, cute gestures and friendly dispositions, whereas boys are considered naughty, boisterous, messy and loud. These statements are consistent with perceptions about students in co-educational schools. The differences between girls and boys are seen as natural and genetically determined and dramatised through attitudes and actions. The aim of this paper is to present "doing gender" as a dimension of social interactions among peers in primary school. Doing gender" means the production of gender in interactions. This construction process is to be developed through an understanding of socialisation, socialisation theories, constructivist approaches and the consideration of children's worlds such as school and peer groups.
