Every beginning seems easy when four friends in the editorial team of a university magazine believe in a better world, long before the experiences they will encounter throughout their careers. As an investigative journalist, Elena takes on powerful opponents, Ulrike becomes a popular TV face, and Hans emerges as an influential political key figure. Only Max lags behind, still standing behind the bar of Café Selig, where he started working as a student, with his ambitions as an author. From this time-forgotten sociotope, he narrates his version of their story – oscillating between hubris and self-pity, arrogance and remorse.
