The original Brother STe-141 stencil tape with white lettering on a transparent background (non-adhesive) was specifically developed for electrolytic marking. It is equipped with a temperature-sensitive layer that contains ink or a special liquid for the direct marking of electrically conductive surfaces or metal parts.

During the printing of the stencil, small holes are integrated, which, during the subsequent etching process, ensure that the electrolyte penetrates the tape. A stamp with signing felt or similar material is placed on the tape and pressed into the metal (required electrochemical equipment not available from Brother). Finally, the metal changes color and is permanently marked with a serial number, a barcode, or a logo.
