Product details
The Mecklenburg Lake District is an unforgettable experience with sparkling blue lakes nestled among lush green forests, set in a gentle hilly landscape. The Mecklenburg Lake District was formed more than 20,000 years ago during the last Ice Age. Glaciers and their meltwater rivers shaped a diverse terminal moraine and sand landscape. This resulted in ridges and numerous lakes, giving southern Mecklenburg the name "Land of a Thousand Lakes." The largest among them are Lake Müritz and Lake Plauer. The watershed between the North Sea and the Baltic Sea runs between Klocksin and Alt Schwerin. It ensures that, for example, the Havel and Peene rivers, whose source areas in the Müritz National Park are only a few kilometers apart, flow in different directions. The Havel flows into the North Sea via the Elbe, while the Peene flows into the Baltic Sea.
