Product details

Beethoven once reported that he composed his last three piano sonatas (op. 109, 110, 111) in one go between 1820 and 1822. In fact, they form an internally cohesive group. The A-flat major Sonata No. 31 op. 110 is characterized by an elegiac and dreamy mood. In the almost vocal-oriented final movement, recitative and arioso figures remind us that Beethoven was simultaneously working on his famous Missa Solemnis. Those who dedicate themselves to this sonata in the carefully edited Henle Urtext edition can demonstrate how brilliant technique and inner expressiveness can merge together.
