Barock! Bayern und Böhmen

It is a story of crisis and reconstruction: At the beginning lies the tragedy of the Thirty Years' War. Bavaria is one of the major players, fighting for the Habsburg Emperor in Bohemia and gaining the title of Elector. The imperial court of justice rages at the Old Town Square in Prague. Bohemia must become Catholic again. For decades, Bavaria is a war zone and ultimately counts among the losers. After the catastrophe, the focus shifts to reconstruction. Its form is found in the Baroque – in both Bohemia and Bavaria. From the devastation arises a shared cultural space: a construction boom prevails in both countries. The Baroque is celebrated. The Bavarian-Czech State Exhibition in Regensburg and Prague presents over 150 high-ranking originals from both countries, showcasing the diversity and richness of an era marked by great passions, abysses, and illusions, heaven and hell.
