The great Argentine science fiction classic Eternauta underwent a comprehensive remake in 1969. Not only did the author Héctor G. Oesterheld change the story in detail, but Alberto Breccia's collage-like, surreal style creates a completely new, even darker, more dystopian world. Here, the invasion of aliens is tolerated, if not staged, by the superpowers of the world, and the "eternal traveler" faces an almost hopeless powerlessness. Eternauta 1969 represents a highly exciting historical document of the Argentine left at the end of the 1960s; however, the real sensation of the book lies in the innovative black-and-white drawings by Alberto Breccia, who is still considered one of the greatest comic artists in the world today. To this day, they have lost none of their radicality. For his life's work, he has been awarded the Max and Moritz Prize, among others.
