Product details

An important monastery in the mirror of its documents - a basic work on Lower Saxon monastic and territorial history. Loccum is one of the best known and best preserved monasteries in Lower Saxony. Probably founded in 1163 by the Counts of Hallermund, the Cistercian convent was able to acquire extensive landholdings by about 1330: In the area between the Steinhuder Meer and the Weser, a closed manorial dominion developed; further focal points lay north of the monastery into the county of Hoya, near Wunstorf and Rinteln, between the Deister, Süntel and Leineniederung as well as around Oedelum. The extensive surviving collection of documents, which not least reflects the important expansion phase of the monastery, is the subject of the present work. It provides reliable short recensions and transcriptions of more than 1600 documents from the end of the 12th century until the late 20th century.
