Product details
Paul Gauguin's (1848-1903) powerful, luminous paintings are world famous. Little attention has so far been paid to the many versions in other media through which the artist accompanied important watercolors, paintings, woodcuts and sculptures. Gauguin's print works on paper, such as lithographs, but also the oil pause, were particularly congenial to Gauguin due to their possibilities of reproduction and inspired his artistic creative process, which followed the nuances of repetition, recombination and variation of central subjects. The subtle surface structures of printed paper and incalculable traces of the printing process helped him to give expression to his vision of a dreamlike and mysterious life in the South Seas that has remained to this day. The catalogue moves the no less impressive companions of the known most.
