Suzu Urano, a girl with a lot of imagination and a great talent for drawing, grows up well protected in Hiroshima. When she marries, she becomes a member of her husband's family and moves to the military port city of Kure. The outbreak of World War II makes daily living conditions immensely difficult. Despite the adverse circumstances, she manages to lead a happy life - until a bombing in 1945 shatters her life. Gently and with delicate imagery, the manga tells a wartime story that focuses on the everyday lives of people in 1940s Japan. The three-part miniseries was also adapted as an anime feature film.
