Product details

This is a pioneering work. It approaches Albania's communist system of rule (with a view to its late phase between 1976 and 1985) in a differentiated, multi-perspective and theoretically reflective manner, based on a broad range of sources. The book explores the question of how political rule was carried out in practice under sometimes unprecedented conditions and how it affected society. Based on internal discussions of the regime leadership and its correspondence with subordinate organs, the practices, considerations, strategies, styles of thinking, and perceptions of party-state actors are examined. Based on a cultural-historical understanding of rule, the work also examines everyday practices, behaviors, perceptions, and strategies that people developed to navigate the given conditions.
