Product details
People suffering from Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) spend several hours a day preoccupied with one or more perceived flaws in their bodies, even though others do not share their concerns. They engage in time-consuming, repetitive behaviors or mental acts, such as constantly checking their appearance in mirrors or comparing their looks to those of others, which can lead to significant impairment in social relationships and even social isolation. The book first provides a description of the disorder, references current data on epidemiology and comorbidity, and offers insights into the development and diagnosis of the disorder. It then describes a practice-oriented cognitive-behavioral approach. Central elements of the treatment approach include the targeted modification of negative thoughts.
