Kaurn is an organ in recent years as ripped into the focus of interest as the spleen. The postulate of postplenic septicaemia after traurnatically caused splenectomy led to the demand for preservation of the spleen. Snanchen authors even considered the omission of spleen conservation as a malpractice. However, a critical review of the literature gives little indication of a real risk of sepsis after post-traumatic splenectomy, at least in adults, while in childhood there appears to be a real elevation. This makes it doubtful whether it is necessary to preserve the spleen at all costs.
