The concept of the good A historical-systematic investigation
GermanProduct details
This is the first book of a four-volume work on the history of the concept of the Good from antiquity to the present (Vol. 1: Antiquity; Vols. 3 and 4: Modern Era). The present Volume 2 deals with the concept of the Good in medieval philosophy from Augustine to Suárez. The study takes into account the various adaptations of the Good (ethical good, useful, summum bonum, etc.). Although the approach of this book is a historical-systematic interpretation of the different conceptions of the concept of the Good, the investigation inevitably delves into other fundamental concepts of medieval scholasticism, as the concept of the Good is closely linked to them. The historical overview begins with Augustine. The path leads through Boethius, Scotus Eriugena, Anselm, Abelard, and Philip the Chancellor to Albertus Magnus and Thomas Aquinas.
