Product details

With a biographical sketch of Freud by James Strachey. Introduction by Alexander Mitscherlich, explanations for the edition by Angela Richards.

Summary:
About the edition
The study edition (10 volumes plus supplementary volume) includes about two-thirds of the Freud texts contained in the Standard Edition; the editor of the famous English Freud edition, James Strachey, was involved in the conception of the study edition. To this day, the study edition is the only critical German-language edition of the main part of Freud's oeuvre. The volumes are organized by themes, allowing the reader to quickly navigate Freud's diverse work. Within the volumes, which are equipped with extensive editorial apparatus, the chronological structuring principle is applied.

About the author:
Sigmund Freud, born in 1856 in Freiberg (Moravia); studied at the Vienna Medical Faculty; 1885/86 study stay in Paris, influenced by J.-M. Charcot, turning to psychopathology; afterwards engaged in private practice in Vienna, focusing on hysteria and other forms of neuroses; founded and further developed psychoanalysis as a distinct treatment and research method, as well as a general psychology that encompasses the phenomena of normal mental life. In 1938, Freud emigrated to London, where he died in 1939.
