Will this converter also work with the new Init7-Fiber X and X2? If not - what does it need? Thanks

No. Physically it's not possible (wavelength), as well as gigabit connection (slower than X, X2). You need better optics and hardware that is suitable for X/X2. The Init7 homepage and support will help you. So far, only certain devices have been tested.
