What exactly is the difference between the import versions? The import is noticeably cheaper, but why exactly? Where do these lenses come from?

Import" refers to grey or parallel imports that have not been imported into Switzerland via the official Canon importer. I.e. Canon Switzerland will not provide any warranty service for them.

Imports come from abroad (logical, right? lol). The products are usually cheaper, because they are purchased by the suppliers at lower prices or in larger quantities (even if a product is no longer available or in stock). This means that the price advantage can be passed on to the customer. The difference is mostly in the warranty and availability. The quality of the lenses should basically be the same.
