What are the best settings with the UPC Connectbox? Setting the Connectbox as a modem (is this already bridge mode?) is the Synology firewall sufficient and thus offers the same security as directly with UPC?
I have the UPC Connectbox in bridge mode and regulate all traffic/firewall with Synology. The Synology firewall offers more than the UPC Connectbox (settings, notifications, intrusion prevention, ...) and I personally trust the Synology more than the UPC 😀.
At first I had problems connecting the new TV box from UPC via the Synology router, which initially only worked via the UPC Connectbox in router mode. However, this has been fixed at UPC for a few weeks.
I use it in a router cascade, which means the cablecom router is a router with disabled WiFi. You just have to be careful that it is not routed to the same network. By default, UPC has a 192.168.0.xx network. Synolgy routes default into 192.168.1.xx network, respectively 192.168.2.xx for guest access. By the way, this can be set on both routers. Advantage: UPC remains responsible against external attacks. Synology ensures that the ISP has no access to your private network. Synology also has a few good additional security filters, especially for children.
