MikroTik Cloud Router Switch CRS310-8G+2S+IN
10 Ports
Is this one compatible with the Fiber7 10 Gbit/s setup from Init7? I think the fact that there are 2 SPF+ ports should suffice, but just wanted to make sure if there is anything I'm overlooking?
Almost everything works with the router OS from Mikrotik, but not everything that works is also useful/sensible. According to Mikrotik, this switch can only route a maximum of approx. 0.5-1Gbit/s, as it does not have any suitable chips for hardware-accelerated routing (https://mikrotik.com/product...). This device should therefore be used primarily as a switch and not as an (Internet) router, even if this should theoretically be possible.
It would work with the right gbics, but as mentioned just use it for switching and avoid routing.
You could set up different VLANs to use one SFP+ port for connecting to Init7,
and the other as trunk to a dedicated router (like a mini PC with pfSense) if your router only has one SFP+ port available.
It's certainly compatible with the right gbic, but its 98DX226S chip doesn't support hardware fasttrack or NAT. I would therefore recommend the CRS309-1G-8S+, which is not limited in this respect and will allow you to wirespeed whatever the traffic. Configuring RouterOS is by no means trivial, especially if you want to retain all the HW acceleration, but it's quite possible.
I would not use the switch as a router, there is the CCR series from MikroTik, for example. Or alternatively use a discarded PC with OPNsense with a 10g network card. This switch does not have enough power to route 10g, but it can switch 10g without any problems.
