is the remote release compatible with the Canon EOS 550D?
According to Canon, yes. (see the link above from Dbeerle71).
In the instructions supplied with the RS-60E3 remote release it is written that this remote release fits all EOS cameras equipped with a mini jack (for jack plugs approx. 2mm).
I use it successfully with an EOS-60D.
