Hello Prophecy, not so easy with this description 😉. A lot of things "could". I'll give it a try. 
Do the drives have external power (more like 3.5 desktop models) or do they suck from the hub (more like 2.5 portable)?
 Is the power supply sufficient for this load (manuals 🙄)? 
What is the total length of the USB cable from the laptop port to the drive (read Wiki USB Limits)? 
How does the data flow (1 disk to Lappi, or is there still data traffic from/to one or more other disks)? 
Do you copy data back and forth between the disks?
Do several programmes access one or more disks at the same time? 
Do you have printers or USB-to-network traffic on the same USB line?
Are all USB3 devices, incl. plug-in port on the laptop?

Just for your information: I have attached several USB sticks (with e.g. 64 GB or 256 GB) and the transfer rate, even of videos, is very fast... Only my mobile phone is charged much more slowly via the ICY box than when I connect it directly to a socket with the same fast-charging cable.
