Question about Sony RMF-TX500E
I have a Philips TV at home. Since this product says universal remote control, can I assume that it will work on my Philips?

It probably already works, at least partially. If you don't want a Philips remote control (perhaps because it's too expensive?), I would advise against the relatively expensive Sony remote control. There are many "no name" universal remote controls that are much cheaper and also fulfil their purpose.
