Question about AOC 27G2U/BK
I have a laptop with an HDMI 2.0b port, now my question is, can I still use the screen via the HDMI port and achieve the 144hz or does this not work?

No, that is not possible. A maximum of 120hz is possible with hdmi. 144hz is only possible via the display port.
