Hi all, screen always has to be switched off manually to wake it up from standby mode and then switched on again for it to respond again.... does anyone have a solution so that this is not necessary?

Nope, not for me, whether standby or startup, the screen turns on. 
Wait a little longer to see if it just takes a while. 
Go into the menu and change the settings in the system (economy mode/standby, etc.) and test again after each setting. 
It could also be the graphics card, which also goes into standby and takes longer to send a signal.
