Question about ASUS Universal Dock

I am happy to give the following (technically amateurish) answer:

I also bought this product together with my Asus Zenbook laptop. However, the dock works for me under the following two conditions:

1) The dock must be connected to the power supply.
2) The dock can only be connected to one of my 3 laptop ports so that the HDMI port works. On my Asus Zenbook, I have 3 ports (1 left, 2 right of the screen - the one at the back right works for me).
