Hello, does anyone know whether this sound card can be used to record audio from sources that are played back "directly" in the system (i.e. not via a line input cable)? I would like to make audio recordings from audio sources that are currently running directly on the PC. I have Windows 11, thanks in advance and regards

Recording with up to 24-bit/192 kHz (sampling rate) is possible via line or microphone input. Recording a live stream, on the other hand, requires - as already mentioned - the Audacity software (freeware) or, for professional use, products from Adobe, for example.

I have just tried it out. With the "Audacity 3.5.1" freeware I can both record what is currently being played on the computer (from the Internet) and play it back, settings in Audacity:
- Interface Host: "Windows WASAPI
- Recording Device: "Speakers (Soundblaster Audigy Fx) (looppback)"
- Playback Device: "Speakers (Soundblaster Audigy Fx)"
I only connected the "headphone cable" (socket 3, green) to my active speakers (Bose Companion 20) on the Soundblaster. Nothing is connected to "Line in" (socket 1, blue) (I use this, for example, when I want to connect my old tape deck).

In an earlier version of Audacity, however, you could only record what came into the Soundblaster through the input sockets. What was played on the computer could not be recorded from the Soundblaster at that time. I had to use the computer's internal sound processor, which worked fine.

So whether you can record directly from the Soundblaster obviously also depends on the recording software.

However, you may have to play around in Windows/Settings/Sound, which can be a bit of a pain.
