Hello, can I use this without EVER connecting it to another device? I don't need any advanced functions, just step counter and MAYBE clock. I know it is *usually* combined with an app, my question is whether this is strictly necessary.

A mobile phone and the corresponding app are useful for setting up the device. It is also useful for updating the tracker from time to time. Once set up, however, the band can be used without a mobile phone and if you don't feel the need for updates, you will never have to connect it again.
