Has anyone installed Linux on the system? The wifi module is soldered, does anyone know what kind of module it is?
...if I may add my two cents: Linux Mint 22 did not work for me (screen remained dark) but Ubuntu 24.10 runs perfectly and excellently.
Hello Mario
I've had the device for almost exactly three months now. I installed Linux right from the start and have been using the Vivobook in my everyday life ever since. The device has worked perfectly for me since the setup.
However, there were two stumbling blocks for me at the beginning:
1. when I bought the Vivobook, the 6.10 Linux kernel was up to date and some components of the Vivobook were only partially supported. Since a new installation with the 6.11 kernel, however, everything has been running perfectly (at least I haven't noticed any problems in the two months of daily use since the 6.11 release).
2. in the beginning I could not change the screen brightness in any way, depending on the distro. (on Ubuntu 22 LTS it did not work for me, on Manjaro it did). As far as I know at the moment, this seems to be due to the DDCCI kernel module, which is not loaded by default by all distros (but it should be possible to customise it everywhere with a little bit of employees).
So for me the Vivobook was not a full "works out-of-the-box" experience, but since it has been running as well as I had hoped, it was certainly worth it for me.
One more question about the Wifi module: It's a Mediatek chip and it uses the Linux driver module mt7921e. (I haven't opened the laptop to check though 😉)
