Hello Community. I currently have the WLAN at home (Sunrise modem) via older Fritz repeaters, which is now a bit lame for me with the increasing needs. Can anyone tell me exactly what the difference is between the two Netgear systems on sale? Nighthawk mk63 Orbi RBK53 The comparison function doesn't tell me enough... Many thanks for the answers Urban

The basic difference between the Netgear Orbi and the Netgear Nighthawk Mesh systems is that Orbi is a proprietary, and for the most part can only be extended with the model-same/similar add-on satellites, while the Nighthawk Mesh are built to the Wi-Fi Certified EasyMesh standard.

Orbi is available as tri-band, but there are also simpler models with dual-band. With tri-band, a typically faster Wi-Fi radio is available for dedicated backhaul. Orbi is available as Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) systems as well as Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) systems.

The "big" Orbi Wi-Fi 6 systems are not only a bit more expensive, but also offer more bandwidth with RBK75x AX4200 (1x 5 GHz 2400 Mb/s 4x4 for backhaul, 1x 5 GHz 1200 Mb/s 2x2 + 2.4 GHz 600 Mb/s for fronthaul), the Orbi RBK85x and the Orbi Pro WiFi 6 system are AX6000 (1x 5 GHz 2400 Mb/s for backhaul, 1x 5 GHz 2400 Mb/s + 5 GHz 1200 Mbp/s for fronthaul), the current Nighthawk Mesh MX6x are AX1800 (1x 5 GHz 1200 Mb/s 2x2 for backhaul and fronthaul + 2.4 GHz 600Mb/s), the soon to be available MK8x are AX3200 (1x 5 GHz 1800 Mb/s 3x3 for backhaul, 1x 5 GHz 1200 Mb/s 2x2 + 2.4 GHz 600Mb/s for fronthaul).

Orbi is the more professional device. It has more settings options & also multiple LAN ports if you need them. Also, Orbi has tri-band & Nighhawk only dual-band. So the Orbi can use a single band only for communication between the satellites & thus achieve a higher bandwidth. BUT: The Nighhawk can use the new WLAN 6 (ax) & Orbi only WLAN 6 (ac). It is a matter of weighing up what is more important, the latest WLAN technology (speed) or the more professional device with more setting options. If only the WLAN is to be expanded throughout the house without special settings & requirements, then I would rather recommend the MK63. Also because price-performance is better with an additional satellite.
