Does this work with a Mac air 2020 retina (model before M1)? Would like to connect a monitor (and use in extended screen mode), wired keyboard and wired mouse via this hub

The monitor works with my MacBook 12" (early 2015). I use a bluetooth mouse and a keyboard. Good luck!

the monitor doesn't work on my macbook air (about 10 years old) via the hub, but I can charge the battery, read cards, get disks connected. So you might need to connect the monitor directly to your Mac and the hub additionally.
