The frame also works without Wi-Fi, everything is stored locally. As soon as the frame is in a Wi-Fi network, it is synchronised. Without Wi-Fi, remote control is not possible. If your grandmother does not have Wi-Fi, then I would buy a cheaper frame with a memory card and manage the photos on the card (e.g. 2 cards, one in the device and the other constantly updated, then swap the cards during a visit and then update the old one and store the next photos until the next visit).
