Does the monitor also work via a Thunderbolt USB C adapter?

With a Macbook Air 2017 + Thunderbolt - USB C adapter, the Dell monitor could unfortunately neither be recognised nor used.

So far I have only used it with a Windows PC, according to the technical description it should work.
