Question about Sony Alpha 7R III

After a few years with the Sony Alpha 7II, I bought the 7R III and am of course thrilled with the sharpness, speed and image quality.... HOWEVER, I don't understand why the magnifying glass doesn't open in AF mode during manual sharpening on any of my lenses, all original Sony, as it does on the 7II? Also, my "always-on lens", the Zeiss F2.8/35, is very difficult to mount, whereas with the 7II it is mounted very simply, normally. Does anyone have any advice?

The magnifying glass opens when you are in DMF mode. The AF mode is what it is. Namely a pure autofocus mode. "Manual focusing" is hardly necessary. If you want to, you can switch to DMF.
