SALT WORKS FOR ME!
I only read the comments regarding Salt after the purchase (29.11.2018). I had the same problems at first and of course got annoyed when I read the entries here in the forum! I was almost wrapping up the router again.... And got it to work for me with my last attempts!!! The following settings work for me:
Advanced Setting >> WAN >> 1st tab "Internet Connection".
APN profile:
- APN Configuration: "Man. Einstlg."
- Select location "Others
- APN service: enter "internet" (without inverted commas)
- Dial-in number: leave blank
- Username: leave blank
- Password: leave blank
- Authentication: Select "PAP
Hope this helps you! Before I found out these settings, I had updated the router to the latest firmware (3.0.0.4.384_32960), but I assume afterwards that this did not lead to success, because even after the update nothing worked at first. Only the above APN data led to success.
Then I'm curious to see how long it works. I also have Salt and had to manually set the APN service from "click" to "internet", then it worked. At some point, however, the message "SIM card not installed" appeared. After restarting the device, it occasionally worked again for a while.

Salt settings worked after a restart. Speed better than the Huawei E5770. Huawei: Down:13 / Up:32 Asus: Down:17 / Up:32
