Product details
The modular DC battery protection relay (TBP) has the same functions as the remote battery switch (RBS). It is an intelligent high-current magnetic interlocking contactor that can handle continuous DC currents of up to 500 amps. While the RBS is mainly used as a locally or externally controlled battery load switch, the TBP has a number of additional functions. Most importantly, it can protect your battery without the need for an external measurement and control device. In addition to remote control of the TBP, the top-mounted buttons also offer the option of opening or closing the main contact locally. For external control, the TBP is equipped with a 5-wire interface cable. It can be configured to accept two-wire or single-wire ON/OFF commands for optimum flexibility. The TBP is a magnetically latching relay, meaning no current is drawn from the battery when the contact is closed. This is a major advantage compared to conventional relays, which require a sometimes significant holding current to keep the contact closed. In addition to all the functions and advantages of the RBS, the TBP has built-in battery protection. It automatically opens the main contact as soon as the battery voltage falls below a programmable undervoltage value. If the battery voltage then rises above the programmable reclosing voltage, the main contact is closed again. Another practical function of the TBP is the override mode. In situations where the TBP has opened the main contact due to an undervoltage in the battery, a long press of the close button (local or external) will close the main contact for 1 minute. This allows the user to jump-start a system with a low battery. If the battery voltage is still too low after this minute, the contact opens again. However, it remains closed if a charger was connected during the bridging time and the battery voltage rises again.
