Two men awaken in a barren basement cell from their unconsciousness, chained to opposite walls. In the middle lies a brutally disfigured corpse. Gradually, the two strangers receive clues that are supposedly meant to guide them to freedom or a miserable death. From this sparse scenario, James Wan crafts a frantic race against time, whose claustrophobic tightness is broken up by flashbacks and a parallel storyline about an obsessive cop searching for the Jigsaw Killer.
