Product details
For his compilation of Russian folk tales, the physician, philologist and translator Gotthelf Anton Dietrich (1797 1868) drew primarily on cheap prints that were still circulating in Russia in the early 19th century and disseminated the fairy tale texts. One focus of the compilation is on the tales about the mythical knight of the Kiev Round Table Ilija Muromer (Ilya Muromez). The volume is preceded by a preface by Jacob Grimm on the differences and similarities between German and Russian fairy tales.
