    Purchase recommendation savvy users

I switched from the "little brother" to this one and thanks to the controller software only the AP had to be adopted, Config then took over automatically as I only own one.
The devices then connected again immediately and
    the speed increased noticeably.
Through a wall was previously 4-8 MByte/s possible, now it is about 20 MByte.
Big plus: the whistling disappeared with me, which was to be heard before with transmissions.

    Pro

    • Handling when upgrading the hardware
    • Speed
    • Beeping on transmission gone (compared to Unifi AP 300n)

    Contra

    • Relatively complex software when only one access point is needed

    Good AP with many options

Works great with all the devices I tested with it. By default, the channel width on the 5Ghz band is set to 40Mhz - so I didn't get more than 250MBit throughput with 802.11ac devices. After switching to 80Mhz, it was pretty much 500MBit maximum. That's good, but not outstanding. Other access points deliver more here. The AP-AC-PRO gets power via a Netgear GS110TP - standard PoE ("Power over Ethernet") and not PoE+ or something. The consumption is a few watts in idle mode. With a good connection, an additional 1 watt is consumed per 100 MBit throughput. The range with 40Mhz in the 5Ghz band is good; with 80Mhz it is only moderate. However, there are also a lot of access points in my environment and thus a lot of interference.

Addendum: With newer firmware, throughput and range have improved somewhat.

Addendum 2: After a few years about one in ten dies of PoE failure.

    Pro

    • Fair price
    • Extensive configuration options
    • Excellent management of multiple access points
    • PoE capable
    • Regular, major improvements through firmware upgrades

    Contra

    • Throughput not quite as high as other APs
    • Range not outstanding

NETWORK TOP... But not very easy to install/manage

I have tried a few things in our 4-story house.
Due to the floor heating and thick walls, normal range extenders are a disaster and even the Nighthawk from Netgear, which is strong, has "alone" not enough for the whole house.

    I
then tried Apple's Airports and Netgear's ORBI.
ORBI top, but since only MESH and still no other satellites, I then came to UNIFI AC-AP Pro.... AND HAAAPPYYY...

    4 AP's:
AP 1 is via LAN at the Swisscom modem
AP 2 is via LAN at AP 1
AP 3 is via WLAN at AP 2
AP 4 is via WLAN at AP 1

and so we have WLAN in the whole house incl. garden and especially in the air-raid shelter and the underground garage. Is great, I can screw on the motorcycle and watch via WLAN youtube etc.... Otherwise there is "no net" down there...

Conclusion: It is ingenious. Although cumbersome to install, only in English and the APP is only usable when the controller runs in the PC / Mac... but apart from that, the performance/speed is just great.

Advantage over other AP or pure MESH systems is that you can connect the AP's together via LAN or WLAN... simply super.

    Have fun :-)

    Pro

    • possibility to connect the AP's via LAN to LAN or via WLAN
    • fast internet
    • In the controller easy to manage the AP's and clients
    • range in the whole house, incl. garden and basement/underground garage

    Contra

    • Relatively complicated installation of the controller (works for me only on 1 Mac, otherwise not)
    • APP is cool, but only works within the WLANS when the controller is running in the Mac!!!
    • Cloud Key I bought, but is mega complicated
